Advanced Level
Teams with good to excellent skills. They work together as a team. Players have ability to play all positions, although they usually play specific positions. Players understand things like quick attacks but aren't able to execute the more complex plays regularly. Teams use a 5-1, 6-2 or 4-2 system or a combination.
Basically these are teams with good players, with at most, one or two slightly weaker players. They play hard and want a challenge.
Intermediate Plus Level
One or two players have good to excellent skills, while the remainder have slightly better than average skills. Players do not make frequent scooping or throwing violations and know the rules. One or two players may be strong hitters/spikers, but most of the team falls into the average (or slightly above) skill level. Most, if not all, players have a good understanding of the game and probably played in high school. Teams use one or two players as setters.
These are teams with good skills but perhaps lack the strong hitting ability that would make them an 'Advanced level' team.
Intermediate Level
Teams with average skills across the roster, with one or two players having "good" skills. The team has an understanding of the game and they try to use all three hits to develop an attack but are inconsistent with spikes. Often Intermediate-level teams use more creativity in getting the ball over and you may see more dumps and tricky shots than you might at a higher-skill level.
Some teams will play rotations where players have designated positions (e.g. like middle, setter, power...etc.) while others chose to just do simple rotations like what you might see in high school Intra-murals. The team's focus is more about the fun of playing the game with their teammates and results aren't as high a priority as found in the more Competitive divisions. Teams in this division may be interested in improving their skills so that they may be able to advance to the more competitive division as they improve if they wish to challenge themselves as the grow together.
Recreational Level
Basically a recreational level of play with players who know how to play but lack consistency with their skills. Everyone plays a different position as they rotate on each serve...players do not have set positions. Players make occasional scooping or throwing violations, but recognize them and call themselves. Often there is no designated setter with person in middle-front (or right-front) doing the bulk of the setting.
Women's Division (for a description of the 'Women's Fun Night' group, see the separate page on that found under the 'NEWS' menu.)
The Women's divisions are for women only who want to play against other teams of women. The women can now choose to play at an Intermediate+ OR an Intermediate level, as per the descriptions above, to be able to participate. There will be a re-evaluation at the mid-point of each season and teams may be shuffled to the opposite level depending on their performance and/or results from the first half of the season.
Men's Fun Night
This Men's group is for men only who want to play against other teams of men. The men need to be at a Intermediate+ level or higher in order to participate. Participants should also know that the men who play in this group are NOT on set teams. In other words, the personnel on each team are a different mix of players each week. There will be a re-evaluation at the end of each season and more levels or options may be created IF interest grows.
